Is this idea of dogs wearing apparel a modern day fad I hear you ask? I mean who would have thought it, coats for dogs. However believe it or not dog clothing has actually been around for far longer than we might think.
So history lesson over, back to the original question does your dog need a dog coat?
Well during the cold winter months most dogs would appreciate that extra layer of clothing/protection, especially if they only have a thin coat. I mean not all our dogs belong in UK. For examples Chihuahuas originate from Mexico, therefore their coats are not made to withstand the cold British weather.
Also there are a few other things you can do to help aid your dog into staying warm this winter. The first is not to cut your dogs fur during the winter months, a good brush won't harm.
Bathing your dog in the winter months should be done indoors and your dog should be dry before heading out for walkies. Warm water is also ok to give your dog on colder days!
So what winter style dog coats are out there this winter 2016? One of my favorite winter dog coats has to be the leather dog co.
They have a great versatile winter dog coat which comes with a detachable inner fleece lining, also the coat is waterproof and windproof and looks fabulous! The coats are made in the UK using quality cuts of leather and fantastic workmanship.
This is a great looking coat and must be in my list of "top winter dog coats 2016", The dog coat comes from top pet apparel designer Puppy Angel, a very well made coat, that has been designed to keep your dog warm and dry in any winter weather.
Not only does the coat tick all the boxes for durability but it also ticks other boxes as the dog apparel is suitable for some more difficult fitting dog breeds such as Bulldogs, Frenchies and Pugs that have a wider chest, also Puppy Angel cater for larger breeds and even long breeds such as Dachshunds. In addition they range from puppy hoodies to adorable doggie sweatshirts.
Next on the list is this fantastic all rounder dog coat from Danish Design, the two in one coat can has a detachable polar fleece for the crisp dry cold winter walks, if its wet then just zip the raincoat on to the fleece.
And that's not it the coat has been designed for the dark winter nights, the outer beading is reflective and the fastening strap is also reflective.

I had to mention this one as the idea I think is genius, so Dog Clothes such as coats/jackets can also be used for hot weather and this jacket in particular has the technology to keep your dog cool on very hot days!
The Swamp Cooler - cooling vest from Ruff Wear.
So how does the coat work, well in the middle of the three layer core system there is an absorbent layer that holds moisture for the evaporation process to take place, then the inner layer transfers the cooling effect to the dog.
But is does not end there, the coat has another trick up it's sleeve, the outer layer has been designed to reflect the suns heat and the evaporation system creates a fantastic summer hiking dog jacket. RRP £64.95 worth every penny!
Dog Sweaters are also quite popular especially during the winter and Christmas Time. There are many online Dog Boutiques that offer very festive small dog sweaters such as this gorgeous "Rudolph Christmas Dog Sweater" from Morgan's Dog Boutique. Even online stores such as Amazon and Ebay are getting in on the action. You can purchase amazon dog hoodies as well as sweaters for dogs through these sites.
As you can see there are number of various Dog Coats styles and Dog Sweaters for you chose from, but it is important to remember whichever coat you decide to purchase make sure they are comfortable in what they are wearing.
