Planning to relocate your pet to Sri Lanka? Importing Cats to Sri Lanka


To import a cat into Sri Lanka, the following veterinary requirements must be met.


Minimum Age

  1. The cat must be at least 1.5 months (6 weeks) old at the time of import.


Microchip

  1. An ISO-compliant microchip is mandatory.
  2. The microchip number must be recorded on all veterinary documents, including vaccination records.


Vaccinations

Cats must be fully vaccinated and up to date against:

  1. Rabies
  2. Feline Calicivirus (FCV)
  3. Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 (FHV-1)
  4. Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPLV)


Kittens Under 3 Months

If the kitten is under 3 months of age, the mother (dam) must be fully vaccinated against the diseases listed above.


Parasite Treatment

Treatment for both internal and external parasites must be administered within 14 days prior to departure and certified by a registered veterinarian.


International Veterinary Health Certificate

An official veterinary health certificate must be issued by the competent veterinary authority in the exporting country within 10 days prior to export, confirming that the cat:

  1. Is clinically healthy and fit to travel.
  2. Has a valid ISO-compliant microchip.
  3. Has been vaccinated in accordance with Sri Lankan import requirements.


Import Permit Application

Complete vaccination records must be submitted when applying for the Sri Lankan import permit.


Importing Dogs to Sri Lanka

To import a dog into Sri Lanka, the following veterinary requirements must be met.


Minimum Age

  1. The dog must be at least 1.5 months (6 weeks) old at the time of import.


Microchip

  1. An ISO-compliant microchip is mandatory.
  2. The microchip number must be recorded on all veterinary documents, including vaccination records and laboratory reports.


Vaccinations

Dogs must be fully vaccinated and up to date against:

  1. Rabies
  2. Canine Distemper
  3. Canine Parvovirus
  4. Canine Infectious Hepatitis
  5. Leptospirosis


Puppies Under 3 Months

If the puppy is under 3 months of age, the mother (dam) must be fully vaccinated against the diseases listed above.


Blood Tests


Within 30 days prior to departure, dogs must test negative for:

  1. Leishmaniasis – PCR, ELISA, or IFAT
  2. Heartworm Antigen – PCR, ELISA, or IFAT
  3. Heartworm Microfilaria – Knott's Test, Concentration Method, or Filtration Method
Note: If the exporting country is officially recognised as free from any of the above diseases, testing for that specific disease is not required.


Parasite Treatment
