We provide high-quality pet travel crates for cats, dogs, birds, and other companion animals. Our custom wooden travel crates are specially designed for larger breeds and dogs requiring stronger or reinforced travel containers.
Pet Express can supply the most appropriate pet travel crate for your pet's journey.
All Pet Express travel crates are made to order, compliant with the standards specified in the 51st edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), 2025, and are suitable for international air transport with most major airlines. Each travel crate is supplied with food and water bowls, and suitable bedding can be provided where required to ensure your pet travels safely and comfortably.
A pet travel crate must provide sufficient space for your pet to stand naturally, turn around comfortably, and lie down in a natural position throughout the journey.
Travel crates that are too small may be refused by the airline. At Pet Express, your pet's safety and welfare are our highest priorities, and we will only recommend a travel crate that is appropriate for your pet's size, breed, and airline requirements.
When measuring your pet, please do not add extra centimetres or inches to the measurements. An oversized travel crate may allow excessive movement during turbulence, increasing the risk of injury while also resulting in unnecessary airline freight charges. Our experienced team will recommend the correct travel crate based on your pet's exact measurements.

Custom Wooden Pet Travel Crates
We also manufacture custom wooden pet travel crates for larger dogs and breeds requiring stronger travel containers. Our wooden travel crates are compliant with the standards specified in the 51st edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), 2025, providing a safe and secure solution for international air transport.
Many airlines require specially constructed wooden travel crates for certain powerful breeds or dogs that exceed the dimensions of the largest standard plastic travel crate. Each crate is individually built to your pet's exact measurements and should ideally be ordered at least 4 weeks prior to departure.
Our wooden travel crates are manufactured using premium-quality plywood mounted on a reinforced timber frame. Each crate features a full welded wire mesh rear panel, a welded mesh door window, reinforced spring-loaded door bolts, heavy-duty hinges on larger crates, and strong metal carrying handles to ensure safe handling throughout the journey.
Each wooden travel crate is fitted with an internal water bowl that can be replenished without opening the crate door. A food bowl is also securely attached to the door for use during transport.
CR82 Compliant Pet Travel Boxes For Potentially Aggressive Dog Breeds
Some airlines require certain powerful dog breeds to travel in containers that comply with Container Requirement No. 82 (CR82) specified in the 51st edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), 2025. This requirement was introduced after incidents where large, strong, or distressed dogs escaped from standard plastic travel crates, resulting in damage to aircraft and creating a potential safety risk during air transport.
Breeds that may require a CR82 travel crate include Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Bullmastiff, English Mastiff, Dogo Argentino, Cane Corso, and their crosses. The list of breeds requiring CR82 travel crates varies depending on the airline.
At Pet Express, we can construct custom CR82 travel crates in any size using solid timber and premium-quality plywood. Each travel crate is individually built to your dog's exact measurements and is compliant with the standards specified in the 51st edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), 2025.
Before purchasing a travel crate, we recommend confirming with your airline whether your dog's breed requires a CR82 travel crate.
If your airline requires a CR82 travel crate, please contact us as early as possible. We generally require approximately four weeks to construct this type of travel crate. If your departure is urgent, we may be able to complete your crate sooner; however, an additional fee may apply for expedited construction.
Special Customized Pet Carriers Bird Travel Crates in Sri Lanka
For the international transportation of feathered companions, Pet Express offers custom bird travel carriers complete with perches, suitable for everything from large parrots to tiny lovebirds. Our bird travel carriers are compliant with the standards specified in the 51st edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), 2025, and are specially designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment during air transport.
For perching birds, the travel carrier must be of sufficient height to allow the bird to perch naturally without its head or tail touching the roof or floor. Accordingly, a wooden perch of the appropriate diameter is securely fitted inside each carrier.
Bird travel carriers must have a solid, leak-proof floor lined with shredded paper to provide a clean and comfortable environment during transport. All internal surfaces are smooth with no sharp projections, and each carrier is fitted with a securely attached water bowl.
Some airlines may have additional requirements, such as allowing only one adult parrot per carrier. The standards specified in the 51st edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), 2025 also require sufficient perch space for all birds to perch simultaneously. The number of birds permitted in a carrier depends on the available perch space, while larger bird species require proportionately more space. Aggressive or incompatible birds must travel individually. Our experienced team will advise you on your airline's specific requirements before travel.
How To Measure Your Pet
Selecting the correct pet travel crate begins with accurate measurements. The travel crate should be compliant with the standards specified in the 51st edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), 2025, allowing your pet to stand in a natural position, turn around comfortably, and lie down in a natural position throughout the journey.
The illustration below provides a simple guide to measuring your pet and selecting the correct travel crate. All measurements should be taken while your pet is standing naturally to ensure the most suitable crate size is selected for safe and comfortable international air transport.
When measuring your precious pet, please do not add any extra inches as this could be dangerous if the aircraft meet an air pocket or turbulence as your pet could slide around and be injured in an excessively large kennel. Also, if you use a pet travel crate / container that is too big for the pet, you will end up paying more air freight charges for your pet’s journey than is actually necessary. Based on the exact pet’s measurements, we will advise you the correct pet travel crate size which you must use.
Estimate Crate Size
